More Than Just a Shingle.
A Complete System.

We don't just nail new shingles over old problems. We strip your roof to the deck and rebuild a high-performance weatherproofing system designed specifically for the Brazos Valley climate.

Why Roofs Fail in Central Texas

In Bryan and College Station, a standard roof installation simply isn't enough. We deal with a unique combination of thermal shock (extreme heat followed by rapid cooling rain) and violent hail storms.

Most premature roof failures we see aren't caused by "bad shingles." They are caused by ventilation issues that cook the shingles from the inside out, or improper nailing patterns that allow shingles to unzip during high winds. At RocStout, we engineer the roof to handle these specific threats.

The RocStout Standard System

Here is exactly what goes into your project.

  • 1. Complete Tear-Off & Inspection

We never overlay. We strip everything to the bare wood to ensure:

    • Rotten decking is identified and replaced.
    • Fastener patterns are checked on the deck.
    • Structural integrity is verified before installation.

  • 2. The Waterproofing Layer

Shingles shed water; underlayment stops it. We install:

    • Ice & Water Shield: In all valleys and around penetrations.
    • Synthetic Underlayment: Far stronger and more breathable than old-school felt paper.

  • 3. The Architectural Shingle

We install GAF and Owens Corning architectural systems featuring:

    • High-definition aesthetic profiles.
    • Copper-infused granules to prevent algae streaks.
    • SureNail® technology for superior wind resistance.

  • 4. Balanced Ventilation

A hot attic ruins shingles. We calculate the NFA (Net Free Area) to ensure:

    • Intake vents (Soffits) pull fresh air in.
    • Exhaust vents (Ridge) push hot air out.
    • This creates a continuous airflow cycle that extends roof life.

Installation Science: Why Details Matter

Precision Fastening

We calibrate nail guns to ensure fasteners are driven flush—never over-driven (tearing the mat) or under-driven. A poorly nailed roof will fail in the first storm.

Deep Dive: Nail Gun Calibration →

Flashing Integrity

90% of leaks happen at penetrations (chimneys, pipes, walls). We use new metal step flashing and counter-flashing on every job. We never reuse old metal.

Common Questions About Shingle Roofing

How long does an architectural shingle roof last in Texas?

While manufacturers often state "Lifetime" or "30 Years," the reality in the Texas heat is typically 20-25 years. However, proper ventilation and installation (which we specialize in) are the key factors in reaching that maximum lifespan.

Do you install 3-Tab shingles?

Yes but... We recommend Architectural (Laminated) shingles. 3-Tab shingles are rated for lower wind speeds (60mph vs 130mph) and are rapidly becoming obsolete. The small price difference is worth the massive upgrade in durability.

Can you just repair a section of my shingle roof?

Absolutely. We perform a diagnostic assessment first. If the roof has 5+ years of life left, we will recommend a repair. If the system is brittle or failing, we will provide an honest recommendation for replacement.

Will my insurance cover the replacement?

If there is valid storm damage (Wind or Hail), yes. We are experts in "Insurance Advocacy." We will inspect your roof, document the damage, and meet with your adjuster to ensure the scope of work is fair and complete.
